Rayan Cherki, after the France U23 team’s 4-1 victory over Switzerland on Wednesday at Euro 2023 football, spoke at a press conference:

“I have a thought for the family of Nahel (a 17-year-old teenager killed by a policeman in Nanterre after a refusal to comply, editor’s note). Everyone knows what happened and we also wanted to win this match for him and his family. On the match itself, we first wanted to catch up with our first half against Norway. Tonight (Wednesday) is a relatively successful match. Personally, as a competitor, it’s always complicated to start on the bench, but I try to bring what I can to the group, and I hope that I have convinced this evening. It was also important for us to finish first. We will not have to travel, more time to recover and we will be able to prepare as well as possible for the match which is coming up against Ukraine (Sunday in the quarter-finals, editor’s note).
