At Wimbledon,
Varvara Gracheva represented Russia a few weeks ago. Now naturalized French, she dominated without trembling the Italian Camila Giorgi (6-2, 6-4) in 1h26, much more solid than her opponent (8 unforced errors against 27). “Honestly, I forgot that I was playing as a Frenchwoman in this tournament! I am proud and happy to represent France. During the game, I just did my job, so good today. I played very good tennis from the start. I entered the match without any particular expectation, but simply wanting to do my job and it went well”.
In the second round, she will challenge Aryna Sabalenka, the world number two. Another story: “I’m not expecting anything,” she slips with a smile. She is world No. 2 and so strong. She may be the most aggressive player on the circuit. I’ll do my best, as usual. I will probably end up on a big court, I should get used to it. It’s a good experience and a good opportunity.”
