Andrey Rublev, 7th in the world, qualified for the Wimbledon quarter-finals on Sunday by beating Kazakh Alexander Bublik (26th) 7-5, 6-3, 6-7 (6/8), 6-7 (5/ 7), 6-4 in 3:17 and despite a right index finger injury. The 25-year-old Russian, deprived of Wimbledon last year due to the war in Ukraine, will face for a place in the last four the big favorite Novak Djokovic (2nd) or the Pole Hubert Hurkacz (18th).

During his last participation, in 2021, Rublev had reached the 1/8 finals of the Major on grass, the one which succeeds him the least since he has already reached the quarters in the other three. Sunday, while leading 4-3 against the fantastic Kazakh, the Russian injured his right index finger on a volley dive. Then, at 30/30, he let out a howl of pain on a strike and demanded treatment. The doctor put a bandage on the bleeding finger and Rublev resumed the game.
