Rogers, who won silver at the Worlds in Eugene last year, won with a throw of 77.22m on his first attempt.
She leads Americans Janee’ Kassanavoid, second with a throw of 76.36m, and DeAnna Price, third with a throw of 75.41m.
American Brooke Andersen, defending champion, and Polish three-time Olympic champion Anita Wlodarczyk did not qualify for the final.
