Wednesday’s program at the World Athletics Championships has been adapted due to “extreme weather conditions” prevailing in Budapest, the International Athletics Federation (World Athletics) announced on Tuesday.

“The weather conditions in Budapest are becoming extreme”, to “a level not acceptable for our athletes”, explain in a press release the organizers, relying on an indicator which notably combines temperature and humidity.

Given the weather forecast, the series of the women’s 5000m are thus delayed to 7:00 p.m., instead of 11:00 a.m. As a result, “the women’s 200m series will start earlier, at 11:20 a.m., and the men’s 200m series, at 12:15 p.m.,” says World Athletics. Up to 34 degrees are expected at midday on Wednesday in the Hungarian capital.
