Ugandan Joshua Cheptegei, who won the 10,000m last week, is withdrawing from the 5,000m at the Budapest World Athletics Championships due to a foot injury, he announced Thursday on his social networks.

“I would have loved to compete in the 5,000 too but unfortunately I had to make the decision not to line up. I had some problems in recent days with a small foot injury, and I don’t want to take any risks, ”wrote the Olympic champion and world record holder in the 5,000m.

Cheptegei (26) won a third consecutive world title in the 10,000m last Saturday and was among the big favorites for the 5,000m, along with Norwegian title holder Jakob Ingebrigtsen. The series are scheduled for Thursday at 7:00 p.m., the final Sunday at 8:20 p.m.
