Florent Manaudou will not compete in the 50m freestyle final on Saturday at the Fukuoka World Championships (Japan). After promising series, the French stalled in the semi-finals. The triple individual Olympic medalist completely sank over the last 25 meters to finish last in his half with a time far from his abilities in 21”96, only the 12th.

Manaudou, who wants to gain momentum by the Paris Olympics in 2024, will therefore still have to work hard to compete with the Australian Cameron McEvoy (21”25) or the American Jack Alexy (21” ’60), the two best times in the semi-finals. The 32-year-old Frenchman was crowned Olympic champion in 2012 in London over the distance, before becoming world champion in 2015 in Russia.
