Chinese Qin Haiyang was crowned world champion in the 200m breaststroke on Friday in Fukuoka (Japan), beating the world record for the event. By winning in 2’05”48, he erases the record held since May 2022 by Australian Zac Stubblety-Cook (2’05”95), second Friday. American Matt Fallon (2’07”74) completes the podium.

Qin, who swam the entire race above world record bases, is having a dream week in Fukuoka with four titles. He had already been crowned in the 50m and 100m breaststroke, and had won gold in the mixed 4x100m relay.
