BERLIN – at The end, survived only Kidogo and his family: the seven gorillas, which are housed in a cage away from the “House of monkeys”. All other primates have died in the fire that broke out in the zoo of Krefeld, a little to the north of Düsseldorf, in North Rhine-Westphalia. Chimpanzees, orangutans, cebids, squirrel monkeys, but also foxes and bats have been killed in the flames.

The first call to firefighters came just after midnight, but firefighters were not able to tame the fire. According to local media, the intervention was unnecessary because the surveillance of fire fighting of the past has been suppressed for reasons of cost. The fire has razed the entire huge building dedicated to the monkeys.

For the time being the police of Krefeld does not indicate what may have caused the fire, but the doubts are actually few, more so if you look at the time of the disaster: the suspects are the fireworks, unbridled passion for the germans and, this year, at the centre of controversy and discussion, especially for the pollution they cause. On the social network rockets and barrels are listed as safe to be guilty of the fire of Krefeld, and accumulate the curses of the animal, with much invocation of accidents, the possibility, however, is not rare in the field of fireworks, and considerations on the need to prohibit the sale, once and for all. There is also someone who appeals to the conscience, and asks the fans to donate to the zoo the sums destined to fireworks, at least for a time.

Only one modest consolation is the survival of Kidogo, the star of the zoo: the gorilla male Krefeld, 19 years old, is famous for its acrobatic dance on the rope.
