Iranian foreign Minister Mohammed Jawad Sarif handed in his resignation. “I apologize for all my shortcomings in the past years as foreign Minister,” wrote Zarif on Monday on Instagram.

A reason for his decision, he called. Sarif played an important role in the Negotiation of the international atomic Treaty in 2015. After the withdrawal of the USA from the agreement last may Sarif, since 2013, chief diplomat of his country, from anti was of European hardliners violently under attack.

Zarif thanked the population and the “recognized leaders” in the social network for their support. The resignation was confirmed by the official Iranian side. He has yet to be accepted by President Hassan Rouhani.
