The first edition of the Granada Summer Bowl will be held next Saturday by the Granada Phoenix club. It will feature two teams from outside the region, the Cordoba Bulls (and the Almeria Barbarians) as well as the Maracena Lions who are the current Andalusian champions for senior tackle and junior flag categories. The matches will begin at 7:00 p.m. in Parque Nueva Granada. The tournament will be played using the round-robin league system.
Flag is the mode of play for the Granada Summer Bowl. The players remove their helmets and armor and play the tackle (traditional modality without contact). This allows for teams to be mixed as it is one of few Spanish sports that allows women and men to compete and be federated in the same category.
Jose Antonio Huertas (Councilor for Sports at the Granada City Council) highlighted the unique project both within the social spheres and in the sports spheres created by the Granada Phoenix. Parque Nueva Granada is working on inclusion. Jose Miguel Fajardo is the president of Granada Phoenix and declared that this tournament would be a benchmark in Spain. We are confident that all teams will want to take part as soon as possible.
Jose Antonio Medina was president of Nueva Granada Parc Neighborhood Association. He said that he was delighted with American football’s non-contact mode. This is also a sport in which mixed teams are allowed to participate. The values of sport are prevailing here>> Jacobo Calvo from the North District Board pointed out that this allows him to appreciate “the North District and its facilities.” These activities promote healthy lifestyle habits.
