Lluis Permanyer Llados (82 year old from Barcelona, official chronicler for the Ciudad Condal) has been awarded the National Prize for Cultural Journalism, corresponding with the year 2022 at the suggestion of the jury. The Ministry of Culture and Sport has awarded the prize with 20,000 Euros.
The jury highlighted his “extraordinary career of over six decades of historic, artistic, cultural, and citizen journalism in Spanish and Catalan in the press and radio, a figure greatly appreciated by his readers as well as the general public”.
This award is presented by the Ministry of Culture and Sport to recognize a journalistic career in culture, regardless of whether or not the State has used their work in developing it.
The award’s last edition honored Guillermo Busutil as a journalist and writer. He joins a long list that includes Ana Romani, Sergio Vila Sanjuan, Anxo Quintela, and Ana Romani.
Lluis Permanyer Llados, Barcelona (1939) has a degree as a lawyer from the University of Barcelona, and one from the Official School of Journalism. His entire career at La Vanguardia, where he was first employed in 1966, has been dedicated to cultural journalism. He specializes in the history and artistic movements of Barcelona. He has written numerous books, and he also directed and presented monographic programs for TV. He is still active in cultural and journalistic life, even though he is now over 80.
His career began in the magazine “Destino”, where he was an interview model for the Proust Questionnaire. He was awarded the Luca de Tena Prize (1969), Ciutat de Barcelona (1987), Pere Qart for humor, satire, and the National Prize for Journalism of Catalonia (2008). of the Guild of Booksellers of Barcelona.
Permanyer is the author of books about the painters Joan Miro, Antoni Tapies and Antoni Clave. He also wrote books about the sculptor Antoni Clve and the poets Josep Maria de Sagarra, with whom he had a close personal relationship. Permanyer has been a tireless scholar and advocate for the Barcelona landscape, as if it was an open-air museum of sculpture and architecture, modernism, and the figure Antonio Gaudi.
