Adonis Lattimore declared Saturday that he believes that hard work is the key to success. He won first place in the Class 6 Virginia High School League Class 6 106-pound weight class at Virginia Beach Sports Center.

reported that Landstown High School senior James Sanderlin, Eagles coach, cheered wildly as the crowd cheered for him during the final seconds of his victory.

Sanderlin described it as “amazing.” “

Lattimore qualified for the region as a freshman, but he didn’t stay long enough to make it to the tournament. Lattimore improved his record to 32-7.

Lattimore said, “I’ve dreamed of this since I was a child. And to finally see it come to pass is just – it’s beyond my comprehension.”

A Landstown High School senior, WTKR reported that he has been wrestling since second grade.

Lattimore said, “At one time I was on a losing streak of about a year.” “

Kristopher Velez, a teammate, recalled the first time he had wrestled Lattimore when they were both in elementary school.

He said that he was certain that he believed he would get it, and that it wasn’t going too badly. “Then I ran out and he grabbed my hand and I couldn’t move. “

Lattimore is supported by his team and the community.
