The first selection of the Goncourt, the most prestigious literary awards in the French speaking world, is postponed until 15 September, announced Monday the académie Goncourt.

“due to the exceptional conditions of the start of the literary in September following months of a pandemic has severely disrupted the publications of books and sales in bookstores, the academy Goncourt have decided to postpone to Tuesday 15 September, the announcement of the first selection of the Goncourt 2020 as originally planned at the beginning of the month,” said the academy in a press release. “The novels published up to this date will be included in this selection,” said the academy, chaired by Didier Decoin.

The second selection, reducing the list of novels from 15 to eight, or even nine titles, will take place on Tuesday 6 October. The four finalists will be announced on Tuesday 27 October and the prix Goncourt 2020 presented at the Drouant Wednesday 4 November.

The French Academy had already announced last week that it would build its first selection for the awarding of the Grand prix du roman of the 1st of October and its second selection, the 15 October. The Grand prix du roman of the French Academy, will be awarded on the 29th of October.
