Russia has blocked in the UN security Council a Declaration to Libya, in the end should be demanded by the advance of the troops of renegade Libyan General Khalifa Haftar. Moscow insisted to Diplomats from the Sunday to the fact that all parties to the conflict to be called to an end to the fighting. The U.S. rejected such an Amendment to the Text.
US Secretary of state Mike Pompeo called on Sunday for an immediate halt to the military offensive Haftars against the capital, Tripoli. The “military operations” of its troops against Tripoli should immediately be set, said Pompeo. “The unilateral military campaign against Tripoli, endanger civilians and undermine the prospects for a better future for all Libyans.”
There could be “no military solution to the Libyan conflict,” said Pompeo. The United States would work with its international partners for a return to “political negotiations” in Libya under UN mediation.
The UN security Council had Haftars troops asked on Friday in a press statement, “all troop movements”. The UK presented a more formal Text. Therein Haftars will be prompted for the units, any military activity. All parties to the conflict are called to a de-escalation.
