It should not happen – yet seven persons mistakenly been declared dead in hospitals around the Region of southern denmark from 2010 to 2018.
It writes the DANISH SOUTH JUTLAND:
The normal procedure is that when a person dies, so should the doctors declare him dead in the systems – but it is gone wrong seven times where it has taken the errors of the people.
the DR has spoken with Kirsten Kristensen from the Cairn, which was declared dead, even though she lives in the best of health. She had been hospitalized with a pneumonia. A human error meant that her data was swapped with a dead person – and so was Kirsten suddenly even the death of the systems.
For Kirsten meant the error a lot of hassle and frustration, because that started a chain reaction, where among other things, her NemID, health insurance, driving licences and bank accounts were shut down.
And now change the procedure, says leading senior physician at the medical department at Sydvestjysk Sygehus, Torben Knudsen. In future, there must two persons to declare a person dead in the systems.
– We now make it that kapelbetjenten and the doctor who carries out inquest, compares the data on the banknote which is on the toe, with the patient’s other identification documents.
– There sits, for example, also a bracelet with the data on the patient. In addition, comparing one information with the record. Two people should do it, so you are sure that it is the right person, you are in the process of identify, says Torben Knudsen.
Kirsten Kristensen has in connection with the case sought a remedy from the Patientankenævnet, but have been refused to get a compensation for bøvlen and the discomfort of being declared dead by mistake.
