The Italian police has taken control of the rescue ship “Mare Jonio”. Now the crew will be questioned and possibly charged. The ship had taken on 50 boat refugees in the Mediterranean sea.
After the rescue of around 50 boat refugees by the “Mare Jonio” officials of the Italian police took control of the Italian auxiliary ship. “The financial police has seized the ship Mare Jonio’ and escorted, it is currently in the port of Lampedusa”, explained the Italian Ministry of the interior of Northern League chief Matteo Salvini.
In the coming hours there could be, therefore, the first interviews of the crew. The news Agency Ansa reported that the public Prosecutor’s office had initiated on Sicily an investigation against unknown persons for abetting illegal Migration.
