Antwerp Win of KV Mechelen: that was Beerschot Wilrijk Saturday. But the supporters made in the seventeenth minute, however, for the most magical moment of the evening. For the 17-year-old cancer patient and huge fan Dries Meirsman from Niel ontrolden them banners and they sang ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’.
The Olympic Stadium was filled for the first of two promotieduels. Ten thousand Beerschotfans and 650 supporters of KV Mechelen got a hardbevochten match in which both goalies in their nets schoonhielden. The emotional highlight followed, however, already in minute 17 with a beautiful tribute to Dries Meirsman. He fights all of 4.5 years against a brain tumor and is palliative. Dries is too weak to even move. His parents had in Niel a small party with Dries’ best friends and family organised. It was a very special evening. (read more under photo)
