The Oscar-Show 2019 was a relatively short story with a bad punchline.

It began whimsically, not to say self-deprecating, as the Comedians Tina Fey, Amy Poehler and Maya Rudolph mokierten about the presenter, lots of Show and to the conclusion came: “We are not awarded any prizes during the commercials. Instead, we do advertising during the Awards.”

This could have been a cheerful evening, if someone would have included this Ball – of- fact, but no one, no one was responsible. Instead, prices were read from slips of paper, and a presentation of goals to stepped pair of around the next. There are some Standing ovation, a few tears, a few screams of pleasure and almost gave nothing that would have given the Show a hint of unpredictability.

Xavier Koller missed the Spirit of the show business.

During the three-and-a-quarter-hour event was caught more often at the thought that it would be not only without a Moderator, but also perhaps without a Show. A victory reading from the sheet would have sufficed. In the night of the SRF live broadcast of the Academy-award-winner Xavier Koller, that the Spirit of show business was clearly too short and he saw a mere Ticking off of the prices shown in the balance sheet.

After all, a Melissa there was McCarthy, who performed at the presentation of the category of costume design a dress with grotesquely long Train, that was over and over covered with fabric Bunny. And while the guests were amazed this is a spoof aimed at the costume film “The Favourite”, praising the actress ‘ stoic gaze, the work of an industry in which authenticity is aiming for and never of the story deflection. So good entertainment, if only for a few seconds.

“I didn’t want it to come to this”Olivia Colman about her Oscar.

In the biggest Surprise of the Evening, a woman stood again in the center, and once again it went to “The Favourite”. It is the British woman, Olivia Colman, and received instead of the highly favored Glenn Close the Oscar as best actress, and therefore on the stage for the first time speechless. She described Close as their role model, not apologized at the same time (“I wanted it to come to this”), and promised with a view to her Oscar: “It will not happen again.”

first Oscar for Spike Lee

for A long time so this was a very progressive Oscar night. Three prizes went to “Black Panther”, surely one of the most scintillating super-hero film of the last time. The honours were therefore historically, as in the categories of costume design and scene image for the first time, African Americans were awarded for their work. “Now the door is wide open,” said costume designer Ruth E. Carter later behind the stage. Both supporting actor Oscars went to the dark-skinned actors, in the case of women, it was Regina King (“If Beale Street Could Talk”), in the case of men Mahershala Ali (“Green Book”).

And Spike Lee won with the Ku-Klux-Klan-Satire “BlackKklansman” his very first Oscar he shared with his Co-authors in the category of Best Adapted screenplay. On stage, the Director jumped to the presenter Samuel L. Jackson in the arms and recalled in the speech of thanks to “our ancestors, the stolen 400 years ago from Africa and were enslaved”. Lee appealed to the moral Conscience of the audience and referred to the presidential elections of 2020, in which a decision between “love and hate” is required.

You have can also just stop, but then the Oscar Show in 2019, held it still a bad punch line: “the Green Book”, the Buddy-Comedy about a black jazz pianist and his chavvy white Chauffeur in the racist South of the ‘ 60s, was honored as the best Film .

for Months, a debate on this turned up as a soft rinsed criticized tragicomedy. The members of the real pianists complained that the makers had never interested for your view on what is happening. The producers wrote applied to Mails to journalists who dared, the supposedly anti-racist stance of the “Green Book” to take apart. Among critics memories of Paul Haggis’ “Crash,” awake, the best Film of 2006, and a reconciliation of fantasy the race across the border.

But at the Oscars at the end of a group of white producers on the stage. If you look back once more on the Oscar Show in 2019, it will be said, perhaps, that here the time of Transition is especially become very apparent. The signs of the new times has recognized the Academy already. But its members opted for a movie that looks as if it had been 30 years ago turned.

Was still very much alive, in the Spirit of show business. (Editorial Tamedia)
