David Aguilar has built out of Lego a robot-Prothesenarm. The 19-Year-old was born due to a rare genetic defect without a right forearm. Aguilar, who is studying at the Universitat Internacional de Catalunya in Spain, Bioengineering, used already the fourth model of the colorful prosthesis. Now his dream is to design such affordable prostheses for other people, as he told the news Agency “Reuters”.
Already at the age of nine years, Aguilar has built with his favorite toy the first artificial Arm that was, however, very rudimentary. Each new Version had more freedom of movement than the previous one. And so the 19-Year-old improved his prosthesis up to the current Version.
“I wanted to see me even once with two hands in the mirror”
“As a child, I was very nervous in front of other boys because I was different,” said Aguilar. “But that didn’t stop me from believing in my dreams,” says the 19-Year-old, who hails from the tiny Principality of Andorra, between Spain and France.
The Arm, and Aguilar used only occasionally. Without the prosthesis, he can cope with his life. “I wanted to see me even once with two hands in the mirror – I see other guys,” he said.

All versions of the Lego prosthesis are exhibited in the rooms of the 19-Year-old in the suburbs of Barcelona. The latest models of the term MK to wear, followed by the number – a tribute to the comic book super hero Iron Man and his MK-armor suits.
Aguilar proudly displays a red-and-yellow, fully functional robotic arm that he built 18 years ago. While he bends the elbow joint, and buzzes in the Interior of an electric motor and the gripper closes.
On Youtube operates Aguilar a channel under the Pseudonym of “Hand Solo” – an allusion to the Harrison Ford played the pilot, “Han Solo” from Star Wars. His goal was to show people that nothing is impossible and you should let disabilities stop them.
After graduation, he wants to create affordable prosthetics for people in need. “I want to try to give you a prosthesis, even if it is free of charge – for you to feel like a normal person,” said Aguilar. Then he appends: “But what is normal?”
