Blindspotting

Directed by Carlos López Estrada, with Daveed Diggs, Rafael Casal, Janina Gavankar.

movie review. They have been best friends since they were kids.

A rough ill-treatment separated physically, even if the friendship consisted.

In the meantime changed to Oakland. For the better?

DRAMA. The city of Oakland in the San Francisco area is seen increasingly in movies about the tense rasrelationer. Earlier this year we saw the black comedy ”Sorry to bother you”. ”The Black panther”-the director Ryan Cooglers the breakthrough came a few years ago with the true-to-life ”Fruitvale station” which was about a young black man who was shot dead by police at a train station in Oakland.

the Relationship between the Jojobet police and young black men is a clear theme in ”Blindspotting”. We meet Collin ( Daveed Diggs ) who has been on the inside, but released conditionally. Now he has three days left before he will be completely free, but his environment is not the most appropriate.

Collins best friend (and work colleague) is still Miles ( Rafael Casal ), a fiery white guy who, to this very day, decides to buy a weapon.

The two main protagonists Diggs and Casal are childhood friends although in reality, something that undoubtedly contributes to the chemistry between them. They have written the script, and tackles racism and the over-gentrification of the areas in Oakland with a lot of feeling and great knowledge.

Miles himself, interestingly enough, is a single walking contradiction in how he relates to the city’s cultures.

Refreshing, a bit like when the Spike Lee broke through in the 80’s, even if it gets to be too melodramatic sometimes.

”Blindspotting” opens nationwide on Friday, 7 december.
