Pure military is a modest operation – 40 trucks with soldiers who shall have begun patrolling in the city. American armékällor in the area, however, say that the syrians have not yet reached. But politically, it is a highly interesting schackdrag, a syrian signal to Turkey that its presence is no longer either necessary or desirable. Turkey, which has large forces around the Prisoners, and even bigger a piece of the north, has for several weeks, announced that a major operation against the kurds. After the decision by the USA to call home its forces from the border, kurds have desperately looked for other patrons. Turkey’s president Tayyip Erdogan commented on the development:
” We wanted to teach the kurds a lesson, but if others see that their militias to move on, we need not engage in it. The case of the syrian area. But we want to remove all the terrorists from the border regions.
Some of the syrian kurdish militias, has since many years close cooperation with the PKK, the Turkish kurdish army, which is terroristklassad of Turkey and the united states. (Many of the kurds who died during the syrian milisernas fight against ICE is Turkish kurds.) Turkey is still a number of cities in northern Syria, Afrin and Jarabulus, whose kurdish residents have fled.
One of the reasons that the Turkish regime does not put in more energy to stop european jihadists on the way to connect to the ICE in the years 2013-2016, was that the ICE kept the kurdish militias employed. But after the united states and the kurds – without much help from either Syria, Russia or Turkey – pushed to remove the ICE from the borderlands, so began to Erdogan to send troops into the area.
the Next likely step is to Syria and Russia is increasing the pressure on Turkey to evacuate the whole of Syria, and that Syria demands that the kurdish militias are handing over their heavy weapons to the riksarmén.
Syrian Kurdistan ”Rojava”, is, according to the kurdish nationalists a part of this huge country that spans over four countries. The autonomy the kurds practiced in Rojava with the U.S.’s good memory has been of concern to Erdogan, who in recent years spent considerable efforts on removing the PKK from the Turkish side of the border, where many kurdish communities were emptied of their inhabitants 2015-2016.
