Weernieuws Dry, sunny and warm: the almost last of 2018 writes – not entirely surprisingly – weergeschiedenis. If the rest of december as mild as the past couple of weeks, draw the RMI and the warmest year ever in our country. Perhaps we should honor or share with 2014, with an annual average of 11.9 degrees, the rankings submitted.

From Friday, there will be a few days of very mild temperatures for the time of year predicted, to even 13 degrees. Next week is again a bit chilly, so the warmest year ever is a toss-up. An improvement of the average – at least 12,0 degrees – seems unlikely. Twelve days of patience for the final figures

But the past year had some penalty exceptions. After a normal winter, followed this year with a warm spring and an exceptional summer. Uccle drew even two consecutive heat waves. The first – from 13 to 27 July – was only just past day or two later, there was already the second, that the ten days could stretch to 7 August. The six weeks between 26 June and 7 August were the hottest ever, still a lot better than the legendary summer of 1947, 1976 and 2003.

With an average temperature of 19.8 degrees was the warmest summer since the beginning of the observations in Brussels-Uccle, in 1833. The previous record from 2003 was just 0.1 degree broken. The legendary summer of 1976 recorded a 19.2. With 72 dry days, it was also the driest summer since 183 years – at least in the days without rain are reckoned, not in amount of precipitation.
