Spanish football boss Luis Rubiales, at the heart of a scandal after forcibly kissing a player during Spain’s victory at the World Cup on Sunday, will present his resignation on Friday at the extraordinary general assembly of his federation, announced Thursday evening several Spanish media.
At the head of the Spanish football federation (RFEF), Luis Rubiales was on an ejection seat since he had surprised on the lips Jennifer Hermoso, the N.10 of La Roja female, in front of cameras around the world just after the coronation of Spain against England, causing the highest levels of football to react.
Joined by AFP, the football federation did not confirm this information and did not wish to comment.
The case went up to Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez who called his gesture “unacceptable” and even Fifa launched disciplinary proceedings against him on Wednesday.
Tuesday evening, the RFEF had announced that because of the “urgency”, it would hold an extraordinary general meeting on Friday devoted to the subject.
The announcement of the holding of this meeting was accompanied by a clarification: “in view of the latest events that have taken place (…) last Sunday in Sydney, we wish to inform you that the internal procedures of the Federation concerning integrity issues are open”.
