The American television network Fox announced on Friday that it had acquired the broadcasting rights for the United States of the Saudi Arabian football championship and the matches of world stars Cristiano Ronaldo or Karim Benzema. The channel said it would begin its broadcasts on Monday with two matches in which the Portuguese and French strikers will play.
According to a source in the American audiovisual industry, the contract will be for 100 matches this season, covered in both English and Spanish. Saudi Arabia has launched major maneuvers to exist on the global football scene by attracting several of its stars to its championship, starting with Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo, who arrived in Al-Nassr last January.
The first big name to jump on the bandwagon was none other than his former Real Madrid partner Karim Benzema. Free of any contract, the Ballon d’Or 2022 signed for three years at Al-Ittihad in early June. The French striker is joined by his compatriot N’Golo Kanté. The 32-year-old defensive midfielder signed with the Jeddah club for three years.
Launched in 1996 to compete with CNN and the favorite channel of American conservatives, Fox News is firmly established in first place in cable in terms of audience ratings.
