Frenchman Fabio Quartararo will start 22nd and last on the grid for the sprint race on Saturday, and on Sunday for the British Grand Prix in MotoGP, after having posted the worst qualifying time on Saturday morning on the sodden Silverstone track. The 2021 world champion, in difficulty on the handlebars of his Yamaha, signs in Great Britain, the ninth round of the season, his worst qualifying result since his debut in MotoGP, in 2019.

On Friday, he had set the 11th time in qualifying, insufficient to qualify automatically on Saturday for Q2, the second part of qualifying where pole is played. The 24-year-old from Nice therefore had to go through a repechage (Q1) on Saturday, where the two fastest – the Italian Franco Morbidelli (Yamaha) and the Spaniard Augusto Fernandez (GasGas-Tech3) – were drafted for Q2.
