Former French international Mathieu Valbuena announced his departure from Greek club Olympiakos on Monday after four seasons at Piraeus.
“The time has come to leave. We had a great adventure together,” explained the 38-year-old attacking midfielder on social media. “My only feeling for Olympiakos is love and that will never change. Olympiakos is part of my life.”
Passed in particular by Marseille and Lyon, Mathieu Valbuena had joined the Greek club in 2019, where he played 150 matches, for 18 goals and 43 assists. He won three consecutive championships there, from 2020 to 2022, and a Greek Cup in 2020.
The Frenchman is now looking for a base to continue his career, according to several media.
Mathieu Valbuena has 52 selections with the France team between 2010 and 2015 (8 goals). With the Blues, he played in the 2010 and 2014 World Cups. His history in selection ended after the “sextape affair” involving in particular his teammate in selection Karim Benzema.
