Algerian international striker Andy Delort, struggling in Nantes, has joined Umm Salal SC, the Qatari club announced on Sunday. The player signed “for two seasons, after successfully passing the medical examination”, specified Umm Salal on his Twitter account, without mentioning the amount of the transfer.
Thursday the deputy general manager of the French club Franck Kita had indicated that his transfer was being finalized. Delort, then under contract with Nice, arrived in Nantes last January on loan for the end of the season with a purchase obligation valued at 5 million euros.
He was under contract with the Canaries until 2025 but his debut in Yellow and Green was complicated: in 17 matches, the 31-year-old striker failed to open his counter in the league and scored only two goals from penalties in the Coupe de France.
Born and trained in Sète, Delort had a chaotic career, with very prolific stints in certain clubs but a strong temperament which often pushed him to the start. Since his professional debut in Nîmes in 2009, he has already passed through eleven different clubs.
