With a time of 48 sec 12/100, Florent Manaudou set the best time in the 100m freestyle series at the French Swimming Championships on Tuesday in Rennes, signing his best time over this distance since 2016. Maxime Grousset, vice-champion of the world of the distance last year, achieved the second time of these series in 48 sec 44/100.

Manaudou, whose personal best is 47 sec 98/100, recorded at 32 the fifth best performance of his career in the 100m. “I am very happy with this 100m, it makes me feel good. I was pleasantly surprised, “he reacted in the mixed zone. “I don’t have surprises like that too often anymore, so I take them and it’s nice.”

Despite this impressive time, and as he announced before the start of the competition, he chose not to compete in the final of the event to favor the 50m scheduled for Thursday. “I’m a 50-year-old swimmer so it’s complicated to do the 100m. Even when I was younger it was complicated, so at my age and with my morphotype and the training I do, it’s a lot to talent, “he said. “I’ve done it plenty of times in my career and it’s never been very successful. It’s not a goal at all.”
