Acclaimed to fight against medical deserts, nursing homes will benefit from “accompaniment” of 45 million euros over three years, in order to increase their number from 2,300 today to 4,000 in 2027, said Agnès Firmin on Monday. Le Bodo, the Minister Delegate in charge of Territorial Organization and Health Professions. “We are going to put 15 million euros per year over three years”, or 45 million in total “to support new projects” of nursing homes, she said in an interview with the daily La Provence.

The minister, who inaugurated a health center in Sisteron in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence on Monday morning, stresses that it will be necessary to “create around 450 per year” in order to achieve the objective set by the government. “The State will provide the means, alongside private investors (and) local authorities”, to develop these structures which are “one of the answers to fight against medical desertification”, added Agnès Firmin Le Bodo.

To attract caregivers there, the minister promised to “develop the health service for students” and to facilitate internships for interns in medicine. The government also wishes to provide legal guarantees to doctors who set up in nursing homes: two amendments have been tabled to this effect, as part of a bill on access to care debated this week in The national assembly.
