It’s no secret that Ronan O’Gara would like to coach Ireland in the near future. The Manager of La Rochelle, fresh winner of the Champions Cup for the second season in a row, even recalled it at a press conference after his team’s victory in Dublin against Leinster (26-27) last Saturday.
In Ireland, the negotiations are going well concerning the identity of the one who will take over from Andy Farrell in 3 years. Brian O’Driscoll, the former three-quarter center of Leinster (133 caps) is not a supporter of O’Gara and pushes another Irish legend: Paul O’Connell. The latter has been Ireland’s forwards coach since 2021, after being in charge of the Stade Français sideline and Ireland U20 forwards coach.
“I don’t see a situation where O’Gara will manage Ireland before ‘Paulie’ (O’Connell). In my eyes, the next coach is him. He deserves this promotion and we need continuity within this team,” he said.
