Mowinckel signed his fourth victory on the world circuit, the second in Cortina, just one year after his success in super-G in the Italian resort, with 35/100th ahead of the American Jacqueline Wiles and 44/100th over the Italian Sofia Goggia. Mowinckel, 2018 Olympic downhill vice-champion, and Wiles set off with bibs N.20 and N.26 in better conditions than the first bibs, after an interruption of more than 30 minutes due to the wind.

Starting with bib N.4, after a first interruption due this time to the heavy fall of the American Isabella Wright, the Frenchwoman Laura Gauché remained on the podium for a long time, before finishing in 4th place, at 59/100th. by Mowinckel. This is his second best result in the World Cup after his 3rd place in February 2023 in the downhill in Crans-Montana (Switzerland). The event was marked, like the day before, by several falls, including that of Wright.

The American Mikaela Shiffrin did not participate in this event the day after her heavy fall after having poorly negotiated one of the first difficulties of the track. Affected in the left knee, she will not participate in the giant slalom at Kronzplatz (Italy) on Tuesday, but the five-time World Cup winner has, by her own admission, escaped the worst.

Despite her withdrawal, she remains leader of the world rankings with 295 points ahead of Swiss Lara Gut-Behrami, 5th on Saturday. The Cortina d’Ampezzo stage closes on Sunday with a super-G.
