After two arrests on suspicion of terrorism in Castrop-Rauxel, one of the two men has been free since Monday – the Düsseldorf public prosecutor’s office, however, lodged a complaint. The district court in Dortmund no longer saw any urgent suspicion, and the 32-year-old Iranian was released. “We have a different opinion,” said senior public prosecutor Holger Heming on Tuesday. Now the District Court of Dortmund has to deal with the case again.
The investigators accuse the 32-year-old, who was arrested on the night of January 8, and his 25-year-old brother of having prepared an Islamist-motivated attack.
Both are said to have tried to get cyanide and ricin to murder people. The toxins were not found, but according to North Rhine-Westphalia’s Interior Minister Herbert Reul (CDU) “small amounts of chemical and biological substances”. The trial date for the younger brother has not yet been completed.
