Now Olaf Scholz is giving in after all! After French President Emmanuel Macron and his US colleague Joe Biden decided to supply battle tanks to Ukraine, the German government no longer wants to hesitate.

“We now see that the hard-fought region, in which Germany’s reputation is also being defended, needs more robust support,” said Scholz, explaining the decision to deliver 40 to 50 Marder armored personnel carriers and several Patriot missile defense systems to Berlin.

At the latest since New Year’s Eve, it has been clear that the city, which has been under heavy fire for years, urgently needs help from the west, Scholz said from the government bunker in Ahrweiler. The tanks should now help to recapture lost areas like Neukölln. In addition, the martens should ensure that there are no marathon events on any of the streets in Berlin, in order to ensure the safe implementation of a referendum planned for February 12th.

While the Patriot anti-aircraft systems are designed to neutralize New Year’s firework rockets, the infantry fighting vehicles have the additional task of protecting all of Berlin’s aquariums from shelling so that the “Aquadom” disaster of December will not be repeated. The government in the capital, which is sunk in utter chaos, is still at odds as to whether the tracked vehicles are allowed to use cycle lanes. Meanwhile, weapons experts warn that Bundeswehr tanks are hopelessly inferior to the Berlin combat cyclists.

Nevertheless, Scholz is optimistic that the deliveries can alleviate the difficult situation in Berlin a bit – for example, the defective Pumas on the Ku’damm are a solid obstacle for speeders. A small fly in the ointment about the deliveries to Berlin: According to the Chancellor, there are unfortunately no more tanks left for the Ukraine.
