Former US President Barack Obama issued an urgent appeal to voters to vote for the Democrats in the November 8 congressional election. “Let’s make sure on Tuesday that our country doesn’t go back 50 years,” Obama told an audience of several hundred in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on Saturday.

“The only way to save democracy is if we fight for it together.” Important issues such as abortion rights and social security are at stake, Obama warned. The Republicans should not be given the majority in the Senate and House of Representatives. “Pouting and moping is not an option.”

Pennsylvania was the center of the election campaign on Saturday. In addition to Obama, US President Joe Biden and ex-President Donald Trump were also in the state on the east coast of the USA to campaign for votes. Many Democrats are pinning their hopes on Pennsylvania’s Josh Fetermann, who could win an additional Senate seat for the party. While Obama and Biden made the mood for Fetermann, Trump wanted to appear alongside his opponent Mehmet Oz in the evening.

The race between the two could ultimately decide which of the two parties will take control of the Senate for the next two years. Without a majority of his Democrats in the Senate, Biden could no longer get through important appointments in the judiciary and other projects.
