Heavy rain fell on the Tyrol station, transformed into snow from an altitude of 2,500 m on part of the Rettenbach glacier, where the race was to take place.

“Due to current weather conditions and forecasts, the jury and the local organizing committee have decided to cancel the women’s giant of the day,” the organizers wrote in a press release.

Free skiing, official training, had already been canceled on Friday due to a strong wind which prevented the ski lifts from operating.

The last cancellation in Sölden, which has opened the alpine ski season for more than 20 years at the end of October, dates back to 2018 when the men’s race could not start.

The men’s circuit must always start on Sunday with a giant (first round at 10:00 a.m., second round at 1:00 p.m.).
