Natalia Klitschko also wants to use her name to make the separation from her husband Vitali clear. “I will go back to my previous last name,” says the 48-year-old to “Spiegel”. “I want people to know I’ve borne the Klitschko name, but I don’t want them calling me ex-wife for years to come. I want them to say: This is Natalia Yegorova, whom we have known as Natalia Klitschko for 25 years.”

The mayor of the Ukrainian capital Kyiv, Vitali Klitschko, and his wife, who lives in Germany, had announced that they were getting a divorce. “It is the wish of both sides,” the 51-year-old told the Ukrainian website “Babel” in August.

Vitali and Natalia have two sons and one daughter. The two married 26 years ago in April 1996 in Kyiv.

Before entering Ukrainian politics, Vitali Klitschko was a multiple world heavyweight boxing champion. Together with his brother Wladimir, who is five years his junior, he dominated professional boxing for years. The Klitschkos are particularly closely connected to the city of Hamburg, where their world boxing career began.
