A former Dances With Wolves actor has been accused of sexually abusing young Indigenous girls. According to court documents, police concluded that Nathan Lee Chasing His Horse’s crimes spanned a two-decade period.

As of Wednesday, the ex-actor, who goes by just Nathan Chasing Horse, was accused of two counts of human trafficking and sexually assaulting a child under the age of 16. It was not clear when official charges would be brought against the accused. If convicted, he faces up to life imprisonment.

Las Vegas police arrested Chasing Horse on Tuesday afternoon as he left his home north of the city, where his warrant says he lives with five wives. A search warrant obtained by the AP news agency revealed that the 46-year-old is said to be the leader of a cult called The Circle. During the search, police found media containing videos showing sexual abuse, weapons, over 40 pounds of marijuana and psychoactive mushrooms.

Chasing Horse is best known for his role as a young Sioux Smiles a Lot in Kevin Costner’s Oscar-winning film. He gained a reputation as a healer among tribes in the United States and Canada and, according to police, used his position to abuse young Indigenous girls. The authorities became aware of him after a tip in October 2022 and have been investigating him ever since.

Las Vegas police said in the search warrant they identified at least six alleged victims and uncovered allegations against Chasing Horse dating back to the early 2000s in several states, including Montana, South Dakota and Nevada.
