Antwerp “It must be almost ten,” says the 12-year-old Michael Lord. “Operations.” He is in a wheelchair and suffers from scoliosis. This year discovered the young man from antwerp Bednet. “I need my friends not to miss it as I’m in the hospital lying. During the time we eat together, a piece of fruit in front of the camera. That is something small. I think that’s important.”
Rd of tongue, a little betweterig such as that of a 12-year-old expected. Cheerful. Michiel may be in a wheelchair and nearly a decade of operations in the pocket, his glance falls not to read. He was born with spina bifida and suffers from scoliosis, a curvature of the spine. At the end of this month, he once again under the knife. In January, there was eight hours of him doctored. And yet, there is the dream. Study, ict maybe, and basketball.
“I’ve been to the Antwerp Giants are going to look and the rolstoelbasket. One of my monitors, Jurn, played along. Quite a punishment. I really look up to him. It is more exciting than the ordinary basketball, much harder. More dangerous also. I’m still not sure I will ever dare to, but it is my favorite. For now it is not of the doctors. They are afraid that I am out of my wheelchair and fall, and my back is touched. Why basketball? Because I can’t play football.”
Why I of basketball love? Because I can’t play football.
Michiel Lord,
Sometimes answers are as simple as life itself. Yet it is not all that obvious. “After surgery I can a few weeks not to go to school”, says Michiel. “I still need to stay in the hospital and then home to rest. This year we have Bednet discovered. Using a computer I keep in contact with my friends at school. The lessons missed, which I think is not so bad, but four weeks without any friends, that is much too long. Also during the time we see each other. And then eat a piece of fruit in front of the camera. They are there, I in my hospital bed or at home. That is something small, yes. I think that’s important.”
“Recently, there was a poëzieavond in our class. My computer was on. Everyone who came, all the parents and children, wanted to talk to me. It was really packed. They had me a éigen locally.”
at the End of this month, Michael had surgery again. “Scare? Still, a little. I’m not there to jump. But I am happy with Bednet. And I am well accompanied by Lena. She helps me all years, we see each other almost every day. The operation is this time in Leuven, so there will not as many friends visiting can come, but through Bednet we see each other. And everyone in the class to help them. The one turn the computer on, the is helpdesk. I am always by your side. They get no more of me.”
Friday, march 15, is the Pyjamadag. On that day, will Bednet all of the children who cannot go to school in the spotlight. More info about Pyjamadag you can find here.
