Celebrating 90 Years of Sailing History at Pampus Lustrum Event
From June 13 to 16, 2024, the Sneekermeer will be the center of attention for the Pampus Lustrum Event. This four-day event celebrates the 90th anniversary of the Pampus class and the 65th anniversary of the Pampus club. This special event promises an exciting journey through the past, present, and future of this beloved sailing class.
Historical Opening and Exciting Races
The festivities kick off on June 13 at 8:00 pm with the opening of an exhibition on the 90-year history of the Pampus class at the Fries Scheepvaart Museum in Sneek. The exhibition offers a fascinating look back at the rich history of the Pampus class. From June 14 to 16, sailing enthusiasts can enjoy a series of exciting sailing races on and around the Sneekermeer. These races are organized from Kolmeersland in Offingawier, where the Pampus club, together with the Royal Watersport Association Sneek (KWS), ensures a professional and atmospheric event.
Participants and Races
Currently, 70 Pampussen have already registered. A total of around 160 sailors, divided over 80 boats, are expected to participate. There is a strong representation from the Loosdrecht and Sneek regions, as well as a growing group of enthusiastic Pampus sailors from K.W.V. de Kaag.
Festive Evenings
The program includes at least seven official races and a lively shore program in the evening. On Saturday evening, the future of the Pampus class will be celebrated during the Pampus dinner, where unique items will be auctioned off, strengthening the sense of community within the sailing community.
The Pampus Class: A Timeless One-Design Class
The Pampus class, designed by the de Vries Lentsch family in 1933, is a national wooden one-design class that continues to add new boats to the fleet and restore old ships. The class is known for its unity, accessibility, and high level of competition, with the participation of former Olympians and national champions. An increasing number of young sailors are finding their way to this class.
