Romania’s Prime Minister Dancila has announced after threats from Brussels, from the controversial relaxation of the criminal law on Corruption itself. EU Commission President Juncker welcomed the decision.
Romania wants to avoid months-long dispute with the EU on the controversial judicial reform. Prime Minister Viorica Dancila not announced plans to pursue the easing of the corruption criminal law.
A corresponding law was approved in April by the Romanian Parliament. The proposed Amendment would have had the result that the limitation periods would have been reduced for many offences and offenders go unpunished, when you view a facilitation payment, within one year, and no investigations have begun. Also, penalties for embezzlement and abuse of power would have been halved if the accused compensate you for the damage.
The law was not yet in force, because of the conservative President Klaus Iohannis signed it and, instead, for Review to the constitutional court sent.
