Almost ten years after the disappearance of a woman in Hamburg-Wilhelmsburg, the police have apparently cleared up the criminal case. A 43-year-old was arrested on Thursday when he entered Hamburg Airport, the police said. According to the public prosecutor’s office, the Turk is accused of a homicide. The body parts, which an angler discovered in mid-January, are said to be the remains of a woman who has been missing since 2013.
The 29-year-old Bulgarian disappeared from her living environment in Wilhelmsburg at the beginning of March of that year. Initially, the police assumed that she had traveled to her home country. Then the investigators suspected a homicide and publicly searched for the missing person with a photo and posters. In late November 2013, officers arrested a former lover of the woman on suspicion of manslaughter. During a search, investigators found a sharp gun in the 34-year-old man. According to the information at the time, the suspect was already known to the police for causing bodily harm.
With a large contingent – including divers and sniffer dogs – the officials searched for the body in a nature reserve in the Ochsenwerder district, but were unsuccessful. In the absence of urgent suspicion, the then 34-year-old had to be released. Now the same man is considered a suspect again, which is why the public prosecutor’s office obtained an arrest warrant.
About two weeks ago, an angler discovered a bag of human remains in the Ernst August Canal in Wilhelmsburg. Police divers then searched under a railway bridge for other parts in the water. First, the angler had fished a woman’s shoe with bones out of the water. Through extensive forensic examinations, the remains of the 29-year-old could be assigned. The investigation into the cause of death continued, it said on Thursday. inno
