The Huercal de Almeria City Council approved the works to widen the N-340a highway. This was the final step before the actual start of the work. Ismael Turres, mayor of Huercal de Almeria said, “We spent a long period to make this split, which is so important for our municipality, become a reality. Now, we can finally say the works will start in a very short amount of time.”

This unfolding is one the greatest challenges for the government team led Ismael Turres. He recalled that “we will try to ensure that there is minimal impact on traffic and that appropriate detours or steps can be made in the night to make it more convenient” The works were awarded without the consent of IU and PSOE.

This area is approximately 620m long and runs from the intersection of the Almeria highway with the Avenida de las Flores. It currently has one lane per direction. With this split, traffic will be divided into two carriageways, each with two lanes, separated by a median. Roundabouts will also be used to distribute traffic between the industrial estate’s entrance and exit. It will be paved with sidewalks, and a bike lane. The construction works will take 15 months.

It was approved with one vote against IU. The contract for an exploitation quarry of general importance for the municipality’ was also approved. These quarries provide the necessary raw material for the development and expansion of activities businesses. Torres stated that it is an essential economic activity.
