A train driver was very lucky who forgot his backpack with 12,000 euros in cash on the train. The 35-year-old stated on Sunday that he had boarded a regional train to Koblenz in Mannheim and had put his backpack in the rear shelf, according to the Trier federal police.
When he left the train briefly to get the rest of his luggage, the RE 4113 train left without him. The man reacted with quick-wittedness: he immediately got into a taxi and was driven to Koblenz main station, where the train stopped, even found the right train and searched the train there. But his search was unsuccessful.
Investigations by the federal police based on a video evaluation at Mannheim main station then brought clarification: The traveler had previously forgotten his backpack in an ICE that had then traveled from Mannheim to Berlin. And to everyone’s surprise, it turned out that the train manager had found the backpack and handed it over to the Federal Police at Berlin Central Station.
Since the passenger’s passport was also in the backpack, the 35-year-old could be assigned without a doubt as the owner. He then received the backpack promptly and “very relieved”, it said.
