Beveren The subtropical swimming pool, The Mermaids in Beveren has itself for its fifth anniversary and were treated to a beautiful gift. There was € 450,000 invested in a brand new attraction: a spectacular slide that has all kinds of effects. Visitors get the illusion that they are in the air for decades.
The new attraction was Saturday by the pupils of the sixth year of the school Sancta Maria. The school took as a single part with two teams at the swimming marathon for Music for Life and was rewarded with a scoop. They got the chance to see the brand new slide solemnly in to slide and test. The young people are already ecstatic. The new slide is 80 meters long and features some special effects. “There are some very right-angle bends in the trail with a glass wall,” says centrummanager Roel Timmermans. “This creates a very special effect. It seems like swimmers through the air catapulted going to be. There are three of such effects in the course. The latter is, however, no transparent wall, but a led screen with a shark projected. With the lighting effects in the rest of the tunnel you get the experience as if it all still goes faster. We already had a water slide with tires, but it was still a quick thrill, and with this investment, we come to the expectations of visitors.”
The Mermaids still has one connection for a third slide. “We need the public, of course, continue to surprise and we do that by on a regular basis to deal with something new”, says Timmermans. “In 2016 we have our heated outdoor swimming pool open all year open. With these extensions, the packet is still increasing, which means The Mermaids is an ideal destination for a day of holiday fun for all ages.”
The new attraction will cost € 450,000, and that is one euro per visitor to the complex in the past year the floor was given. “We have at the opening of the target set of a half a million visitors per year and that figure we have almost reached.”
Experiment
think about it, however, deteriorate and know that they are also at the LAGO-group. “Of course you can’t endlessly expand”, says marketing manager Lore Walravens. “Currently, we have been experimenting in Kortrijk with virtual reality. The possibilities are meanwhile already well advanced. With a special VR glasses will swimmers the effect as if they were in the Caribbean sea and the swimming. Also for the water slides offers one’n VR glasses a lot of opportunities.”
The star attraction of The Mermaids, after five years, still the lazy river. “That is our custom-built of this complex and the big advantage is of course that there is never a waiting time. The slides should always be a little bit patient. The new attraction is, however, without a doubt, the favorite attraction during the christmas holidays and will definitely spend a lot of extra visitors luring the coming year.”
