“Not much to choose from in Benin”

“Residents in Benin put their vote in the parliamentary elections on Sunday. But the supply is so, only two parties – both allies of president Patrice Talon – available to choose from.”

“opposition Parties candidates have been prevented from setting up because of the tougher electoral rules. They have therefore called for a boycott. Talon, who was elected in 2016, defending the rules that they aim to reduce the large number of parties in the country – 250. But critics says that they are too harsh and bureaucratic. No opposition party has managed to meet the administrative requirements of the time.”

“the President of Talon is, however, not worried. He goes straight to victory, despite the low level of participation. In a polling station in the capital city of Porto-Novo had only five of the 261 eligible voters has risen from the couch four hours after opening. And the situation looks to be similar elsewhere.”

“Prior to 1991, Benin authoritarian rule, but then went over to a democratic system. Five years ago, competed in the 20 batches of the 83 seats in parliament. The time seems to be passing.”
