The amazing actor Nikolaj Groth was just 16 years old when he landed one of the supporting roles in the successerien ‘Rita’ as his son Robert.
Now – ten years later – approaching the series to its end, and it is sad for the 26-year-old self-taught actor. It was almost the first role he landed on film and tv, and thus it is also a parting with it, which has kick-started his career.
I hope that this is the first chapter for me, and I am lucky, it is just the beginning. But if I’m unlucky, it’s the end.
– It is it that is so awesome and at the same time so scary at the spectacle: I don’t have a clue what the hell I’m doing about a half a year, he says.

Nikolaj Groth is in own words not born actor. He does not come from an artistic background, but it has always been there, that he has found his freedom.
– As younger I was bitten by to watch movies to late at night instead of doing my homework. I think it was a way to disappear. To be able to indulge in a different universe, so you could get rid of that, think about everything that you should reach, the problems, and whatever else was to deal with, he says.
I was so occupied by it that I just thought: ‘It must I just be a part of a day’.
It was he.

But it was with sweaty palms and trembling knees he stood on the stage for the very first time to a skolekomedie in 8.-9.-class.
in Fact he was insanely stage fright, but the adrenaline overdøvede the nerves, and Nikolaj Groth went on.
– It was a totally wild experience I had in the body afterwards – I found out that I have not died of it.
I felt that once I had tried to stand and sing and dance on a stage, so I could it all.

But it was not all that seemed, that he could.
Actually, he was asked to pack it away.
– I have gone on many schools, and there was a lot of teachers, there is little tried to take it from me and ask to put the comedy on the shelf and instead to focus solely on school. It changed first, when I was in high school, says Nikolaj Groth and continues:
My drama teacher single in 1.g was the first and only one who said ‘Go for it!’ It was very great for me to hear, I loved the drama, but everyone else said that it was something I could do a little in the break.
Gymnasielærerens call was a young Nikolaj Groth to go to the casting on an experimental piece at the Betty Nansen Theatre in Frederiksberg.
One of the performances attended a caster, who invited Nicholas Groth to the casting for the role of rita’s youngest son, Jeppe, and from here it went fast.
Nikolaj Groth was through four casting choices – among other things with the actors who play his siblings in the series and, not least, with Mille Dinesen, which occupies the title role in ‘Rita’.

He was just 17 years old when the recordings started to experienced names such as Sara Hjort Ditlevsen, Peter Gantzler, and the aforementioned Mille Dinesen.
– I can remember that I was pretty focused on not revealing, that I could not be so much or had so much experience, but pretend that I had a good grip on it. I was super insecure and had no idea what I was doing.
Like skuespillets dna had Nikolaj Groth ‘pretend’.
– It has taken very many hours to terpe manuscript and give it the life it deserves, so I have gone to it with much awe, he says.
– But after I have come into the lives of many established artists, talented actors and colleagues, I have found out, that they also may be on the bar bottom a few times. You learn a lot from each other and it makes I also.
Although he is not a trained actor, his talent is not overlooked by the industry. Nicholas Groth has been nominated for a Robert statuette for Best Supporting actor and for the tv-award and The Golden Nymph at the international tv festival in Monte Carlo.

Since the role of ‘Rita’ has Nikolaj Groth starred in films such as ‘Fasandræberne’ and ‘While we live,’ and got his first lead role in the drama ‘One-two-three-now!’
– It might look good when you look back. I have had jobs and been lucky to do different things on both film, tv and theatre, but I’m so self-critical.
– I’d like to do even more, and then I think often of all the roles, I haven’t got.
Despite its success it has not yet managed to get through the eye of the needle and entrance examinations to teaterskolerne at home.
– I have tried and been rejected a few times. It’s been frustrating, but I’m calmer now, he says and elaborates:
– I have also played with people who have just come out from the teaterskolerne, and almost stands at the same place, as I do now, but first need to establish a network. That I’m quite lucky that I already have a foot inside the industry. But it is clear that many of the tools you get at the drama school, would be so cool to get.
Fortunately, he can use the same setting as Rita and Emily-characters have.
– The super loving way to other people and to life on, and at the same time have the inner rebel is something I try to take with me, even though it can be a little difficult.
– Some times when I think that everything plays in my own life, so it’s great to put Rita or Emily-brillen on and go to the challenges with the recklessness they have.
