It is not the beginning of an adventure, but the description of a crab-like sea creatures that scientists have found the fossils of the in Colombia, according to The Independent.
It writes Science.dk.
the Animal has lived about 95 million years ago, and palæontologerne have dubbed it Callichimaera perplexa, which means something like ‘incomprehensible beautiful kimær’.
Kimæren is the mysterious monster from Greek mythology that has a lion’s head, a gedekrop and a snaketail.
Callichimaera perplexa may be the earliest example of a floating arthropods that have sprung up since the havskorpionerne dead for more than 250 million years ago.
– Callichimaera perplexa is so unique and strange that it can be seen as krabbernes the duck-billed platypus, says Javier Luque, researcher in paleontology at Yale University, who helped to find the fossil, according to the Independent.
Callichimaera perplexa defies all the performances, we usually have about crabs, and it forces us to rethink our definition of what a crab really is, explains Javier Luque.
the Fossil was found in the Andes mountains in Colombia, where it probably lived in a shallow terrain during the cretaceous period (the geological period about 142-65 million years ago).
in Addition to the unique crab, the researchers found also 70 other species in the soft clay in the mountains.
the Fossils from Callichimaera perplexa was in exceptionally good condition, and therefore, the researchers have been able to make a 3D model of crab.
The new crab and the other findings are described in an article published in the scientific journal Science Advances.
