The actor Robert Gallinowski, known from many television thrillers, is dead. He died unexpectedly at the age of 53, his agent told the German Press Agency on Tuesday evening in Berlin. The “Süddeutsche Zeitung” had previously reported.

The actor, radio play speaker and poet has become known to a wider audience through his appearances in television series such as “Tatort”, “Polizeiruf 110”, “Kommissar Stolberg” and “Der Alte”. Born in Aachen and living in Berlin, he was also seen in the Netflix series “Kleo”. In all, he has had more than 70 roles in film and television since the mid-1990s.

A black and white photo was published on his agency’s website after his death. It read “Oh, Robert (1969 -2023), you will be missed”. The cause of death was initially unknown.

Gallinowski was a very versatile actor with excellent facial expressions who could speak in five different dialects and played four musical instruments. Nevertheless, he was primarily in demand in front of the camera in the role of the tough guy or shady guy.

Sometimes he played a right-wing taxi driver, sometimes the operator of a red light club. In the historical drama “Naked among wolves” based on the classic by Bruno Apitz, Gallinowski embodied SS Hauptsturmfuhrer Robert Kluttig. Theater roles were also his. He was particularly often on stage in Berlin, for example in the Deutsches Theater (“Lonely People”). He had completed his acting training at the Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic Arts in Berlin – among others with the actress Angela Winkler.
