You don’t even have to be one of the top earners in the country to be able to look forward to relief of almost 3000 euros in the coming year. According to calculations by the German Economic Institute (IW), a gross household income of 90,000 euros is sufficient for families with two children.
This is good news for the individual family at the turn of the year. But the rulers have to be accused of being superfluous in this all-too-generous use of state money.
In addition to the adjustment of the income tax rate and the full deductibility of pension contributions brought forward by two years, households also benefit from the increase in child benefit, but above all from the gas and electricity price brake. According to the IW calculation, the price brakes alone will bring state aid worth around 1,500 euros to high-earning households in 2023.
The majority of them would undoubtedly make ends meet without the financial support. But the politicians not only lack a suitable payment instrument for more needs-based aid, they also lack the courage. The fear of citizens’ growing demands on the state is now too great. Unfortunately.
